Purslow Hill Race 2018

Purslow Show Hill Race 2018

A cool and overcast day welcomed runners to the Purslow Hill Race, the latest fixture in our own club championship. The race field of 62  were put to the sword by the tough course but they were rewarded with some splendid views once they had managed the tough climb, of course.

The run, a mixture of road, track but mainly field, lulls you into a false sense of security by starting nice and flat. You eventually hit a steep climb only for it melt away into a nice descent. However, this reprieve is short lived and the ascent up Clunbury Hill truly begins! 660 feet of climbing in a 3.7 miles race is a good effort. The ridge of the hill is fully visable from the show ground and so all that attend can see, and appreciate, the effort that the runners put in. The runners then enjoy a steep descent and can relax, safe in the knowledge that the worst is behind them.

There were some tremendous performances on the field:

First home was Jack Blackburn, of Pontypridd Roadents, closely followed by Richard Lovejoy and our own Matt Yapp. First Lady went to Madeline Wiliams with a time of 28:37. Second and third places belonged to Ludlow Runners with U16 Charlotte Broadhurst and Viv Dempsey, respectively.

Full results of the race can be found here.

The club would like to thank everyone that helped to organise the race: Sandy Ross, Sally Haynes, Anne Thorpe, Terri Greenhalgh, Peter Cartwright, Pat Harding and the many marshalls that gave up their time so that we could run. Really hope to see you all next year.
